1 degree shiftsI was skimming a page of brand marketing firm PureMatter, when this paragraph jumped out at me:

We believe that authenticity drives the energy necessary to create forward momentum. We call it “1° Shifts” for your marketing – the small but critical course corrections that, over time, set you on a trajectory toward transformative success.

1 degree shifts. That’s Agile Marketing in a nutshell. It’s not always necessary to make huge changes in strategy or tactics to realize huge improvements, sometimes it’s just that 1 degree shift.

For something like the Mars Rover, being off at the beginning of the journey by 1 degree would mean missing the planet altogether 300 million miles later. By the way, the navigators at NASA were so accurate, they were able to land the Mars Rover within 200 meters (660 feet) of their target.

Of course, it’s not necessary to get the trajectory exactly right at the beginning. Built into the plan are accurate measurements along the way, and scheduled course corrections to make those 1 degree shifts.

What about you? What 1 degree shifts are you making to your marketing?

I love marketing. I think it’s one of the most difficult and one of most exciting jobs in any company. My goal with this blog is to evangelize agile marketing and help marketers increase the speed, predictability, transparency, and adaptability to change of the marketing function.
